Dog Trainers in San Antonio, TX

San Antonio has plenty of dog trainers. What it has fewer of are dog trainers who are veteran-owned, results-accountable, and willing to take the hard cases other trainers won’t touch. All Around K9 is the trainer San Antonio dog owners send their friends to — 205+ five-star reviews and counting.

If you’re shopping trainers in San Antonio, here’s how we work, who’s behind it, and what to expect.

The Trainer

Meet Our Lead Trainer — Gary Elbrecht Jr.

Gary Elbrecht Jr. is the owner and lead trainer of All Around K9. His training career is built on a military background — discipline, structure, accountability, and the kind of work ethic that doesn’t quit when a dog gets hard. Gary works every program personally: obedience, puppy work, board-and-train, and the behavior modification cases that walk in the door because other trainers gave up.

Gary’s philosophy is simple: train the dog in front of you, not the textbook dog. Read what’s actually happening, build the right plan, hold the line, and follow through until the owner can hold it too.

How We Train

Our Training Philosophy — Balanced, Results-Driven

We’re balanced trainers. That means we use rewards to build new behaviors and clear, fair corrections to interrupt patterns that don’t work. Both halves matter. Reward-only training builds great relationships but struggles with high-distraction or high-stakes situations. Correction-only training suppresses behavior without teaching the dog what to do instead. Used together, balanced training is the fastest path to a dog that is reliable, calm, and a pleasure to live with.

Every dog gets a plan that fits the dog. We don’t run cookie-cutter packages.

Our Programs

What Our San Antonio Dog Trainers Offer

Obedience Training

Sit, down, place, heel, recall, off-leash control, and real-world manners. Private and structured programs.

Puppy Training

Foundations the right way — socialization, potty training, bite inhibition, and early obedience for puppies 8 weeks and up.

Board and Train

Immersive 2–4 week programs where your dog lives with our trainers and gets daily structured work. The fastest route to a transformed dog.

Behavior Modification

Aggression, anxiety, reactivity, fear, resource guarding. Our behaviorist work is what sets us apart from typical San Antonio trainers.

The Difference

Why San Antonio Owners Choose Our Trainers

  • 5.0★ across 205+ reviews. The number keeps climbing because the work shows up at the end of every program.
  • Veteran-owned, owner-operated. Gary’s hands are on every program. You’re not handed off to an entry-level trainer.
  • Balanced methods. Faster results, more reliable behavior, fewer cases that “regress” two months in.
  • Honest assessments. If your dog doesn’t need 12 sessions, we tell you. If your dog needs a vet behaviorist instead of us, we tell you that too.
  • Behavior specialists. The hard cases come to us. We’ve fixed dogs other San Antonio trainers wouldn’t take on.

The Team

Tara Elbrecht — Supporting Trainer

Tara works alongside Gary, especially on puppy work and family-dog programs. The team approach means your training plan is consistent across every session.
